Service Description
Program Vision The AHA Wild Hearts Program is an inclusive, culturally grounded initiative designed for children, teens, and adults across Berry, Bomaderry, Nowra and surrounding regions. Rooted in Indigenous wisdom, the program integrates animal engagement, nature connection, mindfulness, and practical farm experiences. Participants explore self-awareness, resilience, and connection through the human-horse relationship while engaging in purposeful farm-based activities. This program honours the Elders and Custodians of the land, celebrating their enduring wisdom and cultural teachings through The Dreaming(s) and Lore. Participants learn to connect to Country, community, and self, developing a sense of belonging through shared experiences and respect for cultural heritage. Core Purpose To offer experiential, relationship-based learning that promotes growth and well-being without labels or clinical settings. The activities build emotional resilience, empathy, and self-esteem in an environment that feels safe, warm, and empowering. Participant Focus Small groups of up to 10 participants Children (7+), teens, and adults Priority for Indigenous participants with open access to multicultural community members Optional school or after-school pick-up available Program Design Duration: 4–6 months Frequency: 1-hour session per week Group Size: Up to 10 participants per group Delivery Team: Equine specialists, mental health practitioner, horticulture specialist, cultural mentors, and animal carers Key Program Elements Eagala Equine-assisted Therapy Model Principles – Grounded, evidence-based experiences with horses fostering growth, reflection, and self-regulation. Farm & Rescue Animal Care – Participants engage with horses and other rescued animals to develop empathy and responsibility. Gardening & Horticulture – Learning patience, nurturing life, and connecting to cycles of growth and care. Mindfulness & Connection to Country – Breathing, awareness, and sensory grounding anchored in Indigenous practices and respect for nature. Farm Duties – Feeding, grooming, and caring for animals and plants to instil responsibility and daily rhythm. Indigenous Cultural Learning – Guided teachings from local Elders on lore, story, and connection to land. Expected Outcomes Builds confidence, empathy, and emotional regulation Strengthens cross-cultural understanding and connection Encourages leadership, teamwork and self-growth.
