Our program offers a perfect combination of practical experience and online study support to help you achieve your goals. With our program, you can develop the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the equine industry.

Cert III Performance Horse - TAFE

This qualification is designed for individuals seeking to work in the Performance Horse industry. The job roles may include stable hand, stud hand, groom or strapper, farm hand, stock rider, or trail-ride assistant. The qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely with horses, including handling, feeding, exercising, and caring for horses. It also includes stable duties, fitting gear, ridden and non-ridden horse exercise, work, competition, and transportation requirements.

Certificate in Equine Care & Behaviour - various short courses available

This course is entirely online and requires approximately 200 hours to complete as per the provided information. However, AHAF advises students to acquire practical experience and skills related to horses, as this will ensure their safety and increase their knowledge. This is especially important since the course is presented entirely online.

Please note the following important criteria:

  • Registration with the relevant college or training body has to be completed prior to enrolment with AHAF in this program.

  • Participants must be 15 years, 9 months minimum to qualify.

  • Transport needs to be provided to and from work daily.

  • Enthusiasm, positivity and a love of horses is a must.

  • This is a work experience opportunity, with learning support, therefore no financial compensation is involved.

  • A letter of recommendation will be issued on the successful completion of the practical component of this program. Areas that will be monitored are:

    • Reliability​

    • Work ethic

    • Time management

    • On- and off-ground practical horsemanship skills

    • Overall knowledge of horse behaviours and safety

    • General stablehand abilities
